Individual Researchers

FOAG has been working on securing grants for researchers for many years.

Some of our technical consultants have a deep engagement with very prestigious Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs) which provide us with a privileged knowledge of the ground-breaking research lines most likely to be of interest to European financing bodies.

Specifically, Horizon Europe provides great opportunities to either autonomous or RTO-linked researchers, targeting both consolidated (European Research Council) and emerging (Marie Skłodowska-Curie) profiles.

We provide a very brief summary of more relevant Horizon Europe instruments on this page. But don’t hesitate to contact us to find out more about our value proposition for individuals.

European Research Council

The ERC’s mission is to encourage the highest quality research in Europe through competitive funding and to support investigator-driven frontier research across all fields, on the basis of scientific excellence.

We provide a very brief summary of most relevant EIC funding instruments.

Aim: support up-and-coming research leaders (of any nationality with 2-7 years of experience since completion of PhD (or equivalent degree) and scientific track record showing great promise) who are about to establish a proper research team and to start conducting independent research in Europe.

Duration: no more than 5 years.

Funding: Up to 100% funding rate. Requested EU contribution up to 1.5 million.

Should you want more information please contact us.

Aim: support up-and-coming research leaders (of any nationality with 7-12 years of experience since completion of PhD (or equivalent degree) and scientific track record showing great promise) consolidating their own independent research team or programme.

Duration: no more than 5 years.

Funding: Up to 100% funding rate. Requested EU contribution up to 2 million.

Should you want more information please contact us.

Aim: support up-and-coming research leaders (exceptional active researchers who have a track-record of original and significant research achievements in the last 10 years) who pursue ground-breaking, high-risk projects that open new directions in their respective research fields or other domains.

Duration: no more than 5 years.

Funding: Up to 100% funding rate. Requested EU contribution up to 2.5 million. an additional € 1 million can be made available to cover eligible “start-up” costs for researchers moving from a third country to the EU or an associated country and/or the purchase of major equipment and/or access to large facilities

Should you want more information please contact us.

Aim: cover activities (technical viability, intellectual property, commercial discussions, research on additional funding, initial expenses for establishing a company) at the very early stage of turning research outputs into a commercial or socially valuable proposition.

Duration: no more than 5 years.

Funding: 150K€ lump sum.

More information can be found here.

Aim: support research activities of a group of two to maximum four Principal Investigators (PIs) with an early achievement track-record or a ten-year track-record – of which one will be designated as the corresponding PI (cPI) – working together and bringing different skills and resources to tackle ambitious research problems.

Duration: no more than 6 years.

Funding: Up to 100% funding rate. Requested EU contribution up to 10 million. An addition € 4 million can be requested in the proposal in total to cover: eligible “start-up” costs for researchers moving from a third country to the EU or an associated country and/or the purchase of major equipment and/or access to large facilities.

Beneficiaries: Host Institution where the Principal Investigator (PI) will research.

Next calls: The ERC has yearly calls for proposals covering all scientific fields.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (MSCA) provide grants for all stages of researchers’ careers – be they doctoral candidates or highly experienced researchers – and encourage transnational, intersectoral and interdisciplinary mobility. The MSCA enable research-focused organisations (universities, research centres, and companies) to host talented foreign researchers and to create strategic partnerships with leading institutions worldwide.

The MSCA are open to all domains of research and innovation, from fundamental research to market take-up and innovation services. Research and innovation fields are chosen freely by the applicants (individuals and/or organisations) in a fully ‘bottom-up’ manner.

We provide, as an example, a very brief summary of MSCA’s Individual Fellowships instrument.

Individual Fellowships support the mobility of researchers within and beyond Europe – as well as helping to attract the best foreign researchers to work in the EU. 8 research panels have been defined for MSCA: Chemistry (CHE), Physics (PHY), Mathematics (MAT), Life Sciences (LIF), Economic Sciences (ECO), ICT and Engineering (ENG), SSciences & Humanities (SOC), Earth & Environmental Sc (ENV).

Aim: enhance the creative and innovative potential of experienced researchers, wishing to diversify their individual competence in terms of skill acquisition through advanced training, international and intersectoral mobility.

Beneficiaries: institution which host the fellow researcher (mostly nationals and long-term residents in MS / AC but also from third countries).

Duration: up to 2 years.

Funding: The grant usually covers two years’ salary, a mobility allowance, research costs and overheads for the host institution (Up to 69,000€/year for the researcher and up to 21,000€/year for the host institution)

Next call: published on specific MSCA IF calls webpage.
